About Twelve Oaks

Our Story - Why twelve oaks

Some people ask, why Twelve Oaks? Why not Hintz House of Wax (as my husband likes to say as a random business name)? Well, the name is both crazy simple and a great metaphor. Twelve Oaks began with our first location at our home, in the woods, surrounded by twelve magnificent and mesmerizing oak trees. The number twelve is ubiquitous and symbolizes completeness. Oak trees are also incredibly strong trees, with powerful roots systems, symbolizing the healing work we will do as we get to the root of the issues, creating a stronger, healthier, more resilient and complete you.

In doing this work as a solo provider in our first location, many of my clients expressed appreciation for the space, the quiet, the presence, and the nature. The spaciousness of our location, combined with the beauty of the natural world, created a container that unlocked internal spaciousness for my clients. In noticing this and talking about it with other providers, I realized even more how special it was to have a healing space outside of the busy city, with room to be authentic and to grow.

So, with the incredible support of my husband and many others along the way, the vision of Twelve Oaks shifted toward creating something more, a place where therapy happens in spaciousness and nature, where providers support each other instead of competing, and where healing is approached with curiosity instead of pathology.

Founded in 2021 by Dr. Hintz and expanded in 2026, Twelve Oaks is both a specialized therapy practice and a collaborative wellness community. We're nestled on 80 acres of fields, woods, and quiet countryside, providing a grounded sanctuary for healing work.

Our Community Model

How We work together

Twelve Oaks operates as a unique wellness community:

Dr. Javin Hintz provides therapy services through Twelve Oaks, specializing in sexy therapy, relationship healing, trauma recovery, and authentic self-discovery.

Our Community Providers are independent practitioners who share space at Twelve Oaks. Each runs their own business, sets their own fees, and manages their own client relationships. This model allows us to:

• Support local small businesses and practitioners

• Offer diverse healing modalities in one location

• Create true collaborative care and practitioner support

• Maintain high standards while respecting each provider's autonomy

Though our providers are independent in business, we function as a team emotionally and philosophically. We share core values, meet regularly to support each other, collaborate on workshops and events, and create a cohesive healing environment for our community.

Whether you're working with Dr. Hintz or one of our community providers, you'll experience the same nature-grounded, curiosity-driven, affirming approach to wellness.

About Dr. Javin Hintz

Javin Hintz, PhD, LICSW, CST (they/he), is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Sex Therapist, and founder of Twelve Oaks Center for Healing and Sexual Wellness, serving individuals and relationships across Minnesota and Wisconsin.

With a background supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, homeless youth, and individuals navigating trauma and loss, Dr. Hintz recognized a critical gap in mental health care: the lack of attention to sexual wellness. This led them to pursue a PhD in Clinical Sexology, focusing on provider comfort addressing sexuality in community mental health settings.

Dr. Hintz specializes in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO), and Brainspotting. They are passionate about creating affirming spaces where conversations about identity, intimacy, and healing are welcomed and encouraged.

Our Space - Why Nature Matters

Scenic View of the land at Twelve Oaks

Twelve Oaks is nestled on 80 acres of fields, woods, and countryside... and the setting is intentional. We believe the environment where healing happens matters just as much as the work itself.

The sun coming through the trees

Nature has a way of slowing the nervous system down. The quiet, the open space, the trees.. they invite a kind of presence that's hard to find in a busy office building downtown. The commute itself becomes part of the process: leaving the noise behind on the way in, having space to reflect on the way out.

greeting you upon arrival

Whether you're here for a session, an intensive, or simply exploring what Twelve Oaks offers, we hope this land offers you the same thing it offers us... room to breathe, and space to heal.

LGBTQIA+ Affirming

LGBTQIA+ Affirming

LGBTQIA+ Affirming

One of the many populations that is near and dear to my heart is the LGBTQIA+ community. As a member of this community myself (Javin), I recognize that there are so many additional nuances and factors that contribute to the quality of care that must also be recognized and processed, regardless of where you are on your personal journey. Maybe you are in place of exploration around your own gender identity or orientation, ready to share your authentic self with the world but anxious about the process, perhaps evaluating if a particular relationship is right for you, navigating parenting, or a mix of any, all and more. Either way, this work is important, valuable and you deserve to be fully embraced and welcomed for who you are and where you are.

Thank you

Twelve Oaks would not exist without the support of our family, friends, and community (both near and far). Whether you help by spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, encourage others to think deeper or differently, support social change, or help in other ways, thank you. The energy behind Twelve Oaks is truly grounded and inspired by the love, connection and support of diversity within the human experience and the connection to nature, ourselves, and one another.
